Flashing my personality. And my Instagram.

A fair warning: Instead of usual posts about art or books this is a more personal post, about me and should I change my blog's name.

I just added an Instagram widget to my blog. I had an Instagram account for some time now but for some reason I had kept it separate from all other social media accounts I have. I have never been so much into different aliases and I was sort of fascinated by the anonymity of an Instagram account, when I kept it in its own little bubble. Sort of like an alter ego or something.

All photos are from my Instagram
I found it peculiar to make public posts about random things that were meaningless, when considering the big picture and the massive amount of posts and information that is created in Instagram (or any other social media) every second. But then I got tired of it. It started to be indeed too meaningless. I changed my Instagram accounts name to mach this blog, and while doing that I started to wonder if I should rename my blog.

There are three reasons why I named my blog to be Daughter of the Jaded Era. First of all I am or at least was a sucker for a cheesy pun with words and my real name being Jade I thought it was amusing in a dry humor sort of way. The second reason is that sometimes I feel pretty jaded myself. I guess that does not show in this blog almost at all, since my posts are mostly about objects of culture and things that I like. People are seldom very jaded about things they find important. The third reason is that I find this era we live to be pretty jaded most of the time and I am a product of the time and the culture I live in.

Now I am seriously pondering, if I would like to change my blog's name. And if I would, what would it be? I've had this blog for three years now and this in not (at least I am not aware that it would be) an identity crisis. I have this possibly delusional impression that I nowadays know myself quite well. I might be biased on how much about me and my personal life I would want to show in this blog. After all this blog has evolved more into reviews about art and books.

What do you think, you lovely people I've met through blogs, what name would suit this blog?

  1. I'm out of the topic, but: Which church is in the first picture?
Good luck with the name hunt!

  2. I like the name of this blog. Personally, I wouldn't change it. I remember the first time I read the title, I snorted and immediately thought "I would hang out with this chick in real life" I feel the title also shows your intelligent side - you are pretty darned smart. It shows in your writing style. It's your blog, your Queendom so to speak but IMHO, I would keep the title. I think it is brilliant

  3. I like the pun and I like the idea of being part of a jaded era. I always say that my name Sharon (which in the South sounds like Sharin') means I'm less likely to share :p If you really want to change, maybe you could find another pun with Jade... although right now I'm thinking of the green stone and now I'm moving to a Incredible Hulk image so I may not be much help!

More seriously... as a Lit professor, I love words. By definition, "jaded" is a lack of enthusiasm usually after having an excess of something. Writing about cultural objects and activities especially in a time where the masses struggle with culture and identity is like pointing to the culture and yelling, "See! Look! There it is." That in itself has always been part of the dry wit of your blog.

  4. I also like your blog title. I came up with mine on a whimp and have also considered changing it. Especially since I don't even like mindless self indulgence! But I stuck with it because I couldn't come up with anything better yet. Do you have any alternatives in mind?

    1. No, I have no alternatives. I just stated to wonder if my pun of words had lost its appeal. :) I guess not, which makes me really happy!

  5. hmmm i think your blog name sticks to ones head - for people who like me who have a different motherlanguage this is not too often... I'm sure if you come across something that IS more you than the blog's title you will know it. Took me two or three years of blogging, too (plus a fresh start) to find a blogname that I like better than the one I started out with :-)

  9. I´m following you now! I love the anonymity of instagram, i use it to share nature pictures or stuff that i find interesting, not for personal happenings at all. we have all seen these accounts and i share enough of my life in my blog already.
I am happy you have decided to keep your blog! a name doesn´t come to mind, but you know yourself better than anyone else and i am sure you will find a way to combine it into a new name. i loved the personal post, i would love to get to know you better since you seem like a very intelligent and interesting person, plus you have mentioned once that you are a feminist and i would love to read your views on that.

  12. I prefer the more personal posts, but I see no need for you to change your blog name/title - I think it's a good name! Honestly, I think you would gain followers and comments from posting more personal stuff, that's what catches people's attention.
